Knit Privacy Policy

Knit is a Chrome extension that helps users clip selected text from supported AI chat websites into editable local notes
and organize those notes in a side-panel insight canvas. This Privacy Policy explains what data is processed, how it is used,
and where it is stored.
1. Data We Collect
We do not collect account identifiers such as your name, email address, phone number, password, payment data, or authentication credentials.
We do not run advertising trackers or analytics trackers in the extension.
Knit processes data only when you actively use the extension, for example by clicking the floating collect button or the context-menu item.
The processed data may include:
- Selected text that you choose to save from a supported AI website.
- Your note annotations and edits.
- Source page metadata such as page URL, page title, hostname, site name, and favicon URL.
- Insight canvas data such as note positions, connections, project titles, and local UI state.
2. How Data Is Used
- To save selected AI responses as editable notes.
- To show source information so you can return to the original page.
- To support search, annotation, sorting, and note organization in the side panel.
- To build and display the local insight canvas that connects related notes.
3. Data Storage and Retention
Knit stores notes, annotations, source metadata, and canvas data locally in your browser using Chrome's chrome.storage.local.
We do not operate a backend server that receives or stores your Knit notes.
Local extension data remains in your browser until you delete notes, clear extension data, or uninstall the extension.
4. Data Sharing and External Requests
- No developer backend: Knit does not upload your clipped notes, annotations, or canvas data to a developer-operated server.
- Source pages: if you choose to open a saved source link, Chrome opens that URL in a browser tab.
- Favicons: to display source icons, the extension may use a favicon URL from the page or a favicon lookup URL. This is used only for display and does not send clipped note text.
We do not sell personal data, do not use user data for advertising, and do not transfer user data for creditworthiness or lending purposes.
5. Chrome Permissions
- contextMenus: adds a user-triggered menu item for saving selected text as a Knit note.
- sidePanel: displays the main Knit interface for viewing, editing, searching, and organizing notes.
- storage: stores notes, annotations, source metadata, and canvas data locally in the browser.
- host permissions: run the content script only on supported AI websites so the extension can detect user-selected text and show the collect button.
6. Remote Code
Knit does not use remote code. All executable JavaScript and CSS are bundled inside the extension package.
External URLs are used only as page URLs, source links, or image/favicon resources, not as executable scripts or WebAssembly.
7. Your Choices
- No note is saved until you actively choose to collect selected text.
- You can edit or delete saved notes in the extension UI.
- You can clear extension data or uninstall the extension to remove locally stored Knit data.
8. Children's Privacy
This extension is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will be posted on this page with an updated last-updated date.

1. 我们处理的数据
我们不会收集姓名、邮箱、手机号、密码、支付信息或登录凭证，也不会在扩展中接入广告追踪或分析追踪。
仅当你主动点击浮动收集按钮或右键菜单时，Knit 才会处理相关数据。
- 你从支持的 AI 网站中主动选择并保存的文本。
- 你对笔记添加的批注和编辑内容。
- 来源页面信息，例如页面 URL、标题、域名、站点名称和 favicon 地址。
- 灵感画布数据，例如笔记位置、连接关系、项目标题和本地界面状态。
2. 数据用途
- 将选中的 AI 回答保存为可编辑笔记。
- 展示来源信息，方便你回到原始页面。
- 支持侧边栏中的搜索、批注、排序和整理。
- 构建并展示用于连接相关笔记的本地灵感画布。
3. 数据存储与保留
Knit 使用 Chrome 的 chrome.storage.local 将笔记、批注、来源信息和画布数据保存在你的浏览器本地。
我们不运营用于接收或保存 Knit 笔记的开发者服务器。
本地扩展数据会保留在你的浏览器中，直到你删除笔记、清理扩展数据或卸载扩展。
4. 数据共享与外部请求
- 无开发者后端：Knit 不会将剪藏笔记、批注或画布数据上传到开发者运营的服务器。
- 来源页面：如果你选择打开已保存的来源链接，Chrome 会在浏览器标签页中打开该 URL。
- 网站图标：为展示来源图标，扩展可能使用页面提供的 favicon URL 或 favicon 查询 URL。该用途仅用于展示，不会发送剪藏文本。
我们不会出售个人数据，不会将用户数据用于广告，也不会将用户数据转移用于信用评估或借贷目的。
5. Chrome 权限说明
- contextMenus：添加一个用户主动触发的右键菜单项，用于将选中文本保存为 Knit 笔记。
- sidePanel：展示 Knit 的主要界面，用于查看、编辑、搜索和整理笔记。
- storage：在浏览器本地保存笔记、批注、来源信息和画布数据。
- host 权限：仅在支持的 AI 网站运行内容脚本，用于检测用户选中的文本并显示收集按钮。
6. 远程代码
Knit 不使用远程代码。所有可执行 JavaScript 和 CSS 都打包在扩展文件中。
外部 URL 仅作为页面地址、来源链接或图片/favicon 资源使用，不作为可执行脚本或 WebAssembly 使用。
7. 你的选择
- 只有当你主动选择收集文本时，才会保存笔记。
- 你可以在扩展界面中编辑或删除已保存的笔记。
- 你可以清理扩展数据或卸载扩展，以删除本地保存的 Knit 数据。
8. 儿童隐私
本扩展不面向 13 岁以下儿童，我们不会主动收集儿童个人信息。
9. 政策更新
我们可能更新本政策。更新后版本会发布在本页面，并同步更新最后更新时间。
